    Deceiving Hint of Joy


A hint of hope crept into my
dark world
It left even the birds in the trees
sounding cheerful

Optimism not felt in such a long period
of time
Grabbed me by the throat, compelling me
to smile

Instinct and my gut reaction was to
shy away
This emotion was not felt in such an
endless time

Casting off the shackles of my bleak
lonely universe
Embracing the warmth of happiness colours
bright and new

Heart beating, breathless smiles, desperate
for bliss
It is exactly what I had been searching for
so long

The penny drops, with a deafening clang it hit's
the floor
A kicked aimed with precision at the centre of
my chest

Stumbling, trying to catch my breath in
huge gulps
Air escapes my lungs in a sickening
sounding woosh

This is my reward,for desperately attempting
to find
A mate, who would share each and every aspect of
my life

I am on hands and knees, creeping in retreat
to safety
I do not think I will peer outside the shelter of my
haven again
